School Ethos

We are an inclusive School in the Diocese of Ferns. In co-operation with the parish and parents, twenty one children were prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (15th February 2017) and First Holy Communion (13th May 2017). The Do This in Memory Programme was well attended by pupils and parents throughout the year. The whole school attended masses in September for our Opening Year Mass and in June for our Closing Year Mass. Christmas Nativity Plays were held in December 2017. The Ferns Diocesan Advisors visited the Sacramental Classes on 14th February 2017, reporting positively. 43 pupils from 5th and 6th class received the Sacrament of Confirmation on March 31st. A farewell Mass to Fr. Denis Browne was held on 22nd February with a celebration and tree planting afterwards.

Building Works/Improvements

In 2016 a report was carried out on the Learning Loft. Due to Fire Safety regulations & Disability concerns, the Learning Loft has been put out of use. A platform lift & other fire safety measures are required to bring the L. Loft up to standards. The cost of project is now up to €50,000. Ongoing fundraising happened throughout the year. It was decided to await a ‘Summer Works Scheme’ announcement by the Dept. of Ed. to see if grants could be given for this project. In the meantime a temporary library was put in place in the hallway for the pupils. The Board applied for Emergency Works grant in August 2016 and a grant was approved for the conversion of a toilet to a disabled access area.

A new sign was erected in Sept 2016 in the school car park outlining car park safety measures.
