Learning Support/Resource Teaching team.

Hi there,

Triona, Denise and Tanya here - The Learning Support Team!

It’s hard to believe its spring already and we’re well into our second term in school! This school year has been an exciting new challenge for all of us as all three of us stepped out of the classroom and into the new world of Learning Support. Back in September we were still finding our feet and getting to know the new role and my goodness we’ve learned so much!

We’re feeling a little more confident and well into the swing of things now and we’re starting some new and exciting team-teaching literacy and numeracy programmes.

Over the past few weeks we’ve been working hard getting set up for station-teaching (Power-Hour) in Ms. Casey and Ms. Butler’s rooms. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we spend an hour in both rooms which means there are 4 teachers present and Rose helps out too.

This allows us to divide the classes into small groups and each teacher works with a group for a few minutes before the group moves on to the next station. Before we started we had a chat about the areas of literacy and numeracy that would be best targeted during this time and the areas that would be best met in small groups.

The children love this time as they have an opportunity to work in groups of 6 or less and are moving 6 times in the hour so they are full of energy and enthusiasm.  Here’s an idea of what we are working on in each station in Ms. Butler’s Room:
