Active Schools

Active School

We were awarded our 1st Active School Flag in 2013. We are now working towards our 2nd Active School Flag. Our Active School Motto is Hop, Jump,Skip and Play, Let’s get active straight away. We have an Active School Committee that is made up of representatives from each class. Here is a photo of our Active School Committee.

Our Active School Chair person is Cormac McGee.

These are the things we do in our school to be active.

- We do daily exercises in our classrooms


- We take a 5 active minute break @ 2pm


- We do warm up exercises in our lines after 11 o clock & 12.30 breaks


- We say our active school motto


- We support our Parents’ Council with their Slim Down Shape Up programme


- We plan 2 Active School Weeks each year in February & June


- We are active in our yard everyday


We take part in lots of games, sport activities every where in school or outside of school – like GAA, rounders and sports day

We get active homework from our Super Troopers Diary.

FAI Soccer Blitz

Pupils from 4th – 6th class took part in the FAI Soccer Blitz in Ferrycarrig Park on the 28th March. A great day was had by all.

Active School Week

WE had our first ASW in February 20th – 22nd. We had a variety of activities that pupils took part in such as; 1) Skip-a-thon, 2) Stations 3) Jersey Day 4) 10 @ 10

Line Leaders

After 11 o’ clock and 12.30 break our line leaders from 6th class lead the children in a variety of exercises.

Hurling Coaching/Bannow/Ballymitty Gaa

We are delighted to have Frank Kennedy & Keith Power in St Josephs teaching the future stars of Wexford necessary skills in hurling.


We were delighted to have Tina Ralph come to our school and teach yoga to our Junior and Senior pupils. Each class received six weeks of Yoga. They really enjoyed it and found it very relaxing.


Pupils and teachers have been busy preparing for Bree Sports Day.

Be Active

Be Active is now in full swing. 2nd class are having great fun every Wednesday after school playing lots of different games and taking part in various activities.

Classroom Challenges

Our senior and junior participated in various classroom challenges over the year. For the month of May we are taking part in a non competitive running initiative ‘A 1K a day for the month of May’.

10 @ 10

In conjunction with Operation Transformation we took part in 10 @ 10. All the pupils had great fun!!


5th & 6th class took part in the Rounders League this year. We entered two teams, a boy’s and a girl’s team. We wish both teams the best of luck. Follow the newsletter for match updates.
