Summer 2025
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another school year. It has been a very busy three terms with an enormous amount being accomplished. I never fail to be amazed at the multitude of activities our pupils engage in to enrich their educational experience.
I wish to give special mention to two events from the school year. The first was a very successful Erasmus trip to Spain for 5th and 6th year pupils in early May. This was the second Erasmus trip for our pupils following a visit with another group to Sweden in September 2024. The Erasmus project continues to offer our school opportunities that are enriching and life-affirming and we look forward to the next stage in 2026.
This year is the 75th anniversary of our school and we came together to commemorate it in true Ballymitty style at the end of May. The school walls were ablaze with photographs and shelves were laden with memorabilia and books from decades past. It was wonderful to see the community come together to relive memories and share stories. Mass was celebrated in the evening to give thanks for our school followed by drinks and refreshments in Stafford's. It was such a joyous occasion and one which reflected the coming together of all the school community to celebrate our wonderful history.
The staff who work in our school are the glue that hold it together. Our teachers and non-teaching staff work tirelessly every day to provide the best educational experience possible for our children. I would like to thank Audrey, Helena our Secretary and all the staff for their professional commitment. So much hard work goes on behind the scenes in so many areas. The demands on our staff are ever greater but the desire to provide the best for our pupils does not diminish.
Sadly, today, we say goodbye to Ms. Rose who begins a well earned retirement after 13 years of loyal service to our school. Ms. Rose has been at the heart of the school since she began in 2012, touching the lives of so many pupils and families alike. She will be sorely missed and we wish her every joy and happiness in her retirement. We also say farewell to Lorna, our SNA from An Choill, who is moving to another school to continue her career as SNA. We wish you all the best in your new school Lorna!
We wish our 6th year pupils every good wish as they embark on the next chapter of their educational journey. They will take with them a rich tapestry of school experience which they will add to as they move on. We wish each of them well. We also wish any pupils leaving to go to other schools all the best as they continue their educational journeys - good luck to Kelsey, Alesha and Ben!
I would like to also thank our Parents and Friends group who play such an integral role in school life. It has been so gratifying to see parents and friends getting involved for the betterment of our school whether in fund -raising , providing support with curricular events or helping with refreshments during our many social gatherings. We extend a huge thanks to you.
Finally, on behalf of the Board of Management, I would like to wish our pupils, families, carers and all staff a very restful, sunny, safe and joyful Summer break. The school is embarking on a major refit programme over the Summer. We look forward to being part of a high - specification school environment when we re-open at the end of August.
With very best wishes,
Mary Hayward
