We love to celebrate the big and the small achievements of our pupils in Ballymitty NS.
In our classrooms teachers always try to use praise and encouragement to celebrate the achievements within the class. Different reward systems are in place in all classrooms and the Principal often gets to visit to give more encouragement.
As a school, in pre-Covid times, we usually hold a termly prize giving. Parents were invited into these prize giving ceremonies. They were held in our GP room just before we close for Hallowe'en, Christmas and Easter holidays. Pupils were given awards at prize giving for many reasons - Best Speller, Best Mathematician, Most helpful pupil, Best Singer etc!
In October 2022, we decided to change the format of these celebrations. Parents and school community are still invited in but instead of prizes there will be a mini performance done by the classes - a song, a poem, a piece of music etc. It is always a lovely way for parents to be a part of our school and we look forward to beginning these celebrations again in our school.
Every year in June we give two very special awards. The Seán McKenna Trophy is given to the Boy Pupil of the Year and the Maireád French Perpetual Trophy is given to the Girl Pupil of the Year. These awards were started in June 2013 and are given to the pupils who make the greatest contributions to school life. In 2023, a new trophy called The Leona Reville Perpetual Music Trophy was awarded for the first time. Leona was a past pupil of our school and her memory lives on through the achievements of our pupils in music, song, dance and performance.
Check out who has won these awards over the years.
