Dear Parents and Guardians,
Some updates and general information!
Rackard League GAA
Well done to our Rackard League girls who took part in a game on Wednesday. Great effort from everyone. Our boys played Piercestown yesterday and gave it their best.
We have set up group messages for the parents/guardians of Rackard League pupils so you will get a message to your iClassCms app.
Next week's fixtures so far are as follows:
Boys v Castlebridge in Castlebridge (Shelmaliers Club) at 3.15pm. Boys will need to leave school at 2.30pm.
We have no girls fixture yet.
Chess
This year we are trying to promote the game of Chess. When we visited the school in Spain on our Erasmus trip last year we saw the pupils aged 3 to 12 years all learning Chess and using it for various subjects. It was very impressive and we have taken some of their ideas, resources and plans.
To get pupils learning on the chess board, it is sometimes easier to learn using Chess.com first. This can be put on an iPad, phone or laptop. You can register a profile and sign in or simply use it for free in a limited capacity. There are lessons about all aspects of the game and you can then play different people or the computer.
We intend setting up this app on our new Chromebooks which will be used by all classes.
We have also set up our lunchtime Chess Clubs which will start the first week of October. We will start with those who can play chess and then we will help those who can't play it.
In November, we hope to participate in some inter-school competitions.
Erasmus
We wish our 10 pupils all the best in their travels to visit schools in Nice, France on Monday next. We wish Daniel, Séamas, Danny. Evan, Abbie, Dea. Issey, Scot, Alex and Rory all the best for their trip. (Missing from our photo are Dea and Rory)
Some of our pupils haven't flown before so it is a big deal. 4 members of staff will travel with them. You will be able to keep up to date with our travels on the website page here: http://ballymittyns.ie/page/European-Projects/82919/Index.html
Opening Year Mass
My thanks to all the pupils, staff, parents/guardians who attended our mass this morning. It was a very special occasion and a lovely way to say farewell to Fr. Martin.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!
