Homework 2022/2023

Following a Homework Survey in June 2023 we collated the results and findings:

We had 74 respondents, 7 of those were duplicates so 67 responses in total out of 100 families = 67% response

73% felt homework had a value but 94% felt homework caused frustration and tension at home.

73% said, if homework was a Yes or No option, they would opt out.

50% said written homework is important, 50% said it isn’t.

European model of homework where you get homework depending on the subject, time of year, etc = 94% said they would like to see this model of homework.

94% felt that children had already spent enough time on academic work and needed time to do hobbies, family time.

We had great discussions about homework and while lots of people say it causes stress and frustration at home, overall we collectively recognise that homework has to be given. It will be different between the classes but should be the same each week in each class.

Having discussed these findings at staff level on several occasions, the teachers have a plan in place which will be outlined to all parents today by app message and/or letter home.

Most classes will have homework printed on a page and others will write it down in class.

Not all children will be on the same homework as it will be differentiated based on needs and abilities.

The key message going home is that children should do homework when it best suits the home situation.

If there are problems with homework going forward, please let us know.
