Have a read of Scott Doran's wonderful letter explaining how disappointed he was that he didn't get his turn to have 'Buddy' and how much he misses his 6th Class buddy Joe.

(Dear Ms. Keogh, I was sad that I didn't get buddy but don't worry my Mommy made a buddy.

I was sad that I didn't get to see Joe, my big buddy again. I miss him. From Scott. )

Luckily, Scott's Mammy came to the rescue and together they created their own 'Buddy'. Turns out he loves horse riding too!

Check out the first picture on our blog. It was taken on the first Christmas Jumper Day in Ballymitty N.S.

Haven't the children grown a lot since then?

All About Us

We are Junior Infants and we have 9 boys and 6 girls in our class. Most of us knew each other from playschool, however this year we were very lucky to welcome Isabelle, Riley and twins Sadhbh and Saoirse to our class.

Ms. Butler has been our teacher since September; however we are very excited to meet our new teacher Ms. Keogh. Unfortunately Ms. Butler has had to leave early to have her baby.

We have had a very busy first year in Primary School.

Literacy

We finished learning our first round of sounds before the midterm break and are currently revising them daily. We can't believe how many words we can sound out ourselves.

We have also learned 40 out of our 60 Tricky Words, we enjoy finding out our new Tricky Word daily and making up sentences with these new words.

Over the last few weeks we began reading PM readers in school and for homework, we are excited to be able to read books on our own. Ms. Butler cant believe how quickly we were able to read on our own.

We are very proud to be the first Junior Infant class to learn cursive handwriting. At first we found it slightly tricky but now we know all our letter formations and enjoy writing new words.

Maths

We have been learning various maths topics over the last few months such as 2D shapes, weight, and numbers 0-5.

We particularly enjoyed our number stations. When we learned a new number we learned it through various stations.

  • First we created the number formation using playdough and made a number of balls to match the number.
  • After this we had to clip pegs to a card with a particular number on it.
  • We also practice the number formation on whiteboards and drew some images to match the number.
  • We created the number using a variety of materials such as pegs, beads and baubles.

We know how to form all our numbers from 0-5 now and how to make that number.

However, our favourite topic was capacity. We had the chance to fill and empty numerous containers with water and sand, it might have got a little messy.

Gaeilge

Ms. Butler is so proud of how much we use our new gaeilge vocabulary daily. We really enjoy discussing An Aimsir. Our favourite game to play as gaeilge is Déir Ó Grádaigh. Ms. Butler always tries to trick us but we’re too clever. Some days Marty the monkey visits our classroom to ask us some questions as Gaeilge. Sometimes he can’t believe how good we are at responding. He can be a little naughty at times which we enjoy more than Ms. Butler.

S.E.S.E/Aistear

We LOVE Aistear!!! It is definitely our favourite time of the week.

We have been taking part in numerous stations linked to our S.E.S.E. topics. Our favourite so far has been The Garden Centre. We got to make Bunny Grass Heads, eat some yummy chocolate nests, make some nests of our own and also run a garden centre. This was a messy time which we really enjoyed but we always help to tidy up.

We have learned many other things this year, too much to name and we look forward to learning more each week.
