Dear Parents/Guardians,
We had two beautiful gifts given to us in our new An Choill Building this morning.
Martina and Colm installed two Ceadogán Rugs on the walls into our new classroom. These are absolutely beautiful - rugs with trees and mountains and rivers representing An Choill, our Forest!
These can be used for all our pupils to feel, touch, smell and appreciate.
In particular, sensory stimulation is vital for all children, but especially those on the autism spectrum, who often have difficulty making sense of the stimuli they experience through their different senses. Sensory play has been proven to stimulate the brain and create neural pathways that boost sensory processing systems. These rugs offer sensory stimulation for our pupils.
Autistic children often can see colour in a different manner than neurotypical children, with most seeing color with greater intensity. These rugs are made with many vibrant colours and more muted colours which can have a calming effect. Cool colors such as soft blues or greens can be soothing.
These rugs have been expertly developed with a range of different textures to replicate the wide range of different terrains that we experience when exploring the natural world around us. These textures will also provide the deep-pressure stimulation that children on the autism spectrum often seek.
It was amazing to watch the children in An Choill rush to feel and touch them when they were installed!
We thank Martina, Colm and all in Ceadogán Rugs for giving us these wonderful gifts.
Ceadogán Rugs is an incredibly successful local business and there are thousands of rugs designed locally every year which end up in many buildings around the world! You can check out their website here: https://ceadogan.ie/shop/
Míle, míle buíochas!
