Message from Mary Hayward, our school Chairperson

As we approach the end of the academic year, I am reminded that the Latin phrase, ‘Tempus Fugit,’ time flies, seems truer than ever. This year has passed particularly quickly but despite the speed of time, much has been accomplished within our school community.

The Erasmus programme continues to form an integral part of school life. We welcomed Erasmus visitors to our school and three highly successful trips were made to Sweden, Denmark and France. Erasmus is a wonderful opportunity for our students and staff to gain experience and insight into the educational perspectives of other European countries. Next year, we look forward to giving some of our students the opportunity to visit Sweden in September and to visit Spain in May, 2025.

Our students, as ever, have excelled themselves and quite rightly play centre- stage in the day to day routine of school life. I would like to highlight two events that deserve particular mention. Firstly, well done to our talented Novelty Act and Drama group who won the Scor County Final in February, actors extraordinaire! Secondly, our Ballymitty’s Got Talent show never fails to raise the roof! Huge congratulations to Jake Doyle, for taking first prize and well done to all who participated. It takes huge resolve and confidence to perform in front of peers and teachers in the name of fun and entertainment. Well done all!

Of course, on a day to day and weekly basis, our school focuses on providing a balanced and well -rounded education for all our students. None of this would be possible without the dedication, passion and commitment of our teaching and non- teaching staff. A sincere thanks must go to Audrey and all staff who work so tirelessly for the educational gains of our students. When I visit school, I am always struck by a palpable sense of good will and kindness. The school motto is at the core of what makes our school community so special.

I would like to wish our outgoing students every happiness in their new school environments. Their last day is a huge milestone and a rite of passage in their lives. My hope is that they will carry with them the values they have learned during their time at Ballymitty school and embrace the next stage of their educational journey with confidence, hope and potential.

Finally, I wish all our families, carers, staff and most importantly our students a very happy and safe Summer holiday which provides rest and recuperation. Let’s hope the long days will be filled with an abundance of sunshine. Surely, we will get a Summer! We look forward with optimism to the beginning of the next school year at the end of August.

Best wishes,

Mary Hayward – Chairperson: Board of Management.
