Weekly Update from Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Infants full day

The Junior Infants will be here until 2pm starting next Monday Sept. 9th. A reminder that Infant Club will also start for the Junior Infants who have signed up. Please contact Lizie/Sam if you have not put your child's name down.

The Junior Infants had their photos taken today by Wexford People Paper so keep an eye out next Tuesday for their photos!

Pupil Committees and Ballymitty School Mayor

Each year, we ask the pupils in 3rd - 6th to put themselves forward to run for election onto a pupil committee. We ask pupils to prepare a little manifesto and they present this in front of their peers in each class. Pupils then vote for the pupils who they think will do the best job! There are 4 committees and we would ask that parents help the pupils prepare their little speeches and we advise that pupils have three ideas for how they will contribute to the committee. There are always staff members who support each committee and we have committee meetings once per month. The 4 committees are:

Active School Committee - we need ideas on activities, sports, games, lunchtime activities, new sports equipment, Sports day ideas etc.

European Development Team - this group help to welcome any visitors to our school as part of our Erasmus programme. What ideas would they have to welcome any visitors etc?

Green School - How could the pupils make our school more environmentally friendly, ideas for the outdoor areas, gardens etc.

Student Council - this group organise Valentine's Day Fair, Talent shows, non-uniform fundraiser days etc. What other ideas could be introduced?

Finally, the 6th class will be electing a Mayor in their class who is someone who gets to welcome visitors, make speeches, give feedback, help out with school events. Perhaps our 6th class pupils could spend the weekend thinking of how they will get elected!

Hot lunches

A reminder to change lunch options every Thursday by 5pm. Also, some pupils are not eating their lunches. If this is the case, please email wexford@FreshToday.ie to cancel them - give their name, class and school name. It is important to cancel because we are paying for them from the Department grant and it is so important that we avoid food waste.

Library cards

We sent home application forms for School Library Cards during the week. Even if your child is already a member of Wexford Library, they can now get a School Library Card. Please bring the application forms into Wexford Library with a Photo ID and proof of address - a driver's licence has both! They will sign you up and we will look forward to the Mobile Library coming to visit next month on Oct. 2nd! See here for more information: http://ballymittyns.ie/News/Individual-library-card/772671/Index.html
