Let's play a game!

Good morning everyone,

I hope that you all had another great week! smile

This week we will continue with the theme of colour. We will learn the Lámh signs for five new colours and, once we know them all, we will play a fun game of Colours Bingo (see the links at the bottom of this page).

To the pupils of An Choill Bheag (if you have not done so already this morning) please check your post box! I have left a Family Bingo Pack for each of you! Each pack contains 8 laminated bingo cards (these can be re-used over and over again), a whiteboard marker for each family member and 20 laminated colour cards (these can be used if one member of your family wishes to take on the role of the Bingo Caller).

Should any other pupils/families wish to play, it is very easy to make your own bingo cards! Here is a printable word document that will print two blank bingo cards per A4 page (you just need to cut with a scissors after printing) – Printable Blank Bingo Cards.

Or, if you do not have a printer at home or you may have ran out of ink, you could simply take any blank piece of paper and divide it up into 16 boxes (four rows of four), using a pencil and ruler.

When you are filling in your colours be careful not to use any colour more than twice on any card and also do not forget that white is one of the colours! (Top tip: If your sheet of paper is white, simply draw circles and just leave the circle blank for any of the squares that you wish to keep white). Have a look at my examples above.

I hope that everyone has lots of fun playing Colours Bingo! It could be a fantastic way of practising all of the Lámh colour signs that you have learned! Of course, you don’t have to use the Lámh signs when you are playing – that is just a little suggestion. The main objective is to have fun, playing together as a family.

There are lots of other colour-themed ideas that you might wish to try out this week.

Here is a really cool science activity where you can ‘Grow a Rainbow’! All you need is some kitchen towel, coloured markers and water – Click here to find out how to grow your own rainbow.

Or what do you think of this fun sensory activity? It can help to improve colour recognition, pattern recognition and fine motor skills – Click here for details on how to make a Rainbow Sensory Bag

If you have any coloured paper to spare, why not try out one or two of these paper crafts! There are 35 different ideas to choose from. Click here for Paper Craft Ideas.

Or, just for the simple pleasure of watching, here is a video of the work of an artist named Callen Schaub. Callen creates the most mesmerising of colourful art creations! He uses a really cool method called ‘Spin Painting’. I am not suggesting that you try out any of these art methods at home, as it could prove rather tricky (and messy!) … although you could maybe try out some of his ideas on a smaller scale, if you were feeling very creative! I find the video very relaxing to watch.

Don't forget to get in some exercise every day with an activity of your choice. I know that the pupils of An Choill Bheag are really enjoying Tina's yoga videos!

And after all that activity, here is a nice recipe that you might like to try out…

To the parents of An Choill Bheag, if you can spare 40 minutes at any stage this week, I would highly recommend that you take a look at this webinar. The speaker is both a Special Education teacher and a parent of a child with autism. She gives lots of lovely practical advice, as well as plenty of reassurance to parents, for home-schooling. Webinar: Education in the Home During Covid-19.

As always, please don’t forget to email me at ballymittyteachers@gmail.com if you have any queries or any photos/videos that you would like to share.

I hope that you all have another colourful, fun and enjoyable week!
