It was Science week this week in school! Lots of fun was had here in Senior Infants and First Class. We became scientists and tried some experiments! Some worked, some didn't... and some got messy!!!
We have been learning all about 'The Dentist' in Aistear over the last two weeks. We decided tohave a go at making our own toothpaste.. we used bread soda, salt, water and peppermint! It tasted a bit salty!!!
We used cornflour and conditioner to make cloud dough! As you can see, our first attempt was not successful! But we tried again..
We also made oobleck and had so much fun that we forgot to take any photos! We learned that cornflour can get messy! And food colouring is hard to get off our hands... some pupils went home with green or red hands!!!
We blew up a volcano outside with our whole class on Friday (after a few attempts) but unfortunately our Senior Infants missed our Lava lamp making. The First Class used oil, water and food colouring to make lava lamps. Everyone got to add some tablets to make bubbles appear!
We experimented by adding the lava lamps together to see what would happen.. we just made a mess!
Science week was a bit hit in our classroom. We also watched a magic science show and a forensic scene show during the week. We love science and it gets a big thumbs up from our class!!

Introducing our superstars in Senior Infants and First Class...
Some people were missing from the photo so we can take another one when everyone is back. We missed them on Friday!
Everyone has settled back into school and are getting used to our routines. Each morning and after break and lunch we are washing our hands. Senior Infants and First class are great at following the steps to wash our hands and are breaking our time record each day.
This week, we learned all about homes. We discussed the types of homes we live in and the types of homes others can live in. In Aistear, we designed homes using 2D shapes, used play dough to add detail to houses, played with families who lived in a house, caravan and a house boat in Small World, constructed houses with Lego, and used our kitchen to act out roles in our homes. We had great fun!
This week, we started chair yoga. It was a great way to exercise, stretch and relax our bodies.
Reminders: Please just bring in a lunch and drink as it is for health and safety reasons we are not bringing school bags. We are keeping all our stationary in our boxes/baskets and our books in our new green folders.
Have a great weekend!
