Weekly Update from Principal

10-January-25

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas and I wish everyone a Happy New Year. Thankfully we had no snow days this week! As nice as the snow sounds, the lack of electricity, heat, Netflix etc didn't really appeal to the children when we asked them!!

A few reminders and dates

GAA

Well done to the brave souls who came out on Tuesday and this morning for GAA. We will keep this going now for the rest of the year. It is hurling for the remainder of the year.

Parents and Friends' Group

Their next meeting is next Monday Jan. 13th at 7.30pm in the school. They also have some leftover School Calendars left so if anyone wishes to purchase one please let Helena know.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

These will be held the week of Feb. 17th and 18th and we will send out the times in two weeks - to give parents plenty of notice.

Scór Competitions

This year we will be entering children into the following categories of competition:

  • Solo Singing
  • Recitation
  • Ballad Group
  • Novelty Act
  • Instrumental Music
  • Set Dancing

It is important that the children practice their songs and music and words as much as possible in the coming days and weeks.

Different teachers are working with the various groups and we are trying to do as much of this before and after school and at lunchbreaks to avoid interruptions to class teaching time. The first round will be held in Carrig-on-Bannow hall on Weds. Jan. 29th. Times and details to follow

Tinwhistle for 3rd - 6th Class

We are asking that all children from 3rd - 6th class have a D tinwhistle for next week in school. They are readily available in Wallaces, Trax music shop etc. Teaching a tuned instrument is part of our school Music Plan and we hope that all children will engage in this with enthusiasm.

Credit Union Quiz

This will be held in Rathangan on Fri. Feb. 7th. We are forming teams for that competition and there will be permission forms for parents to fill.

Enrolments

A reminder that the closing date for all enrolments for our mainstream school and special classes will be next Monday Jan. 13th.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend,

Audrey
